In 2018, the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society elected Dr. Jean Starr, Division of Vascular Diseases and Surgery and health system director for Endovascular Services, The Ohio State University College of Medicine, its 42nd president. Dr. Starr is only the second female president in the history of the MVSS.

    Paying It Forward, Backward, And In Between

    The Presidential Address centered on the theme of “Paying it forward, backward, and in between.” The “paying it backward” section offered a photographic tribute to the mentors, partners, patients, friends, and family who shaped her career, while also reflecting on MVSS’s history from its 1977 founding through challenges highlighted by past presidents. The address then looked “forward” by framing MVSS as an educational society with strong training programs for fellows, residents, and students, and closed with “in between,” emphasizing self-care, physician burnout, career-path planning, personal pearls, and gratitude to the membership.
