I am the former chief of the division of vascular surgery and program director for vascular surgery training programs at Saint Louis University and currently a professor of surgery. In addition to a busy clinical practice, I am interested in outcomes research in vascular surgery, surgical education, diversity and equity in surgical training/practice, and use of social media in vascular surgery. I have been active in multiple societies, including the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Vascular Endovascular Surgery Society, and the MVSS and am the current editor-in-chief of the Journal of Vascular Surgery Cases, Innovations, and Techniques.

I enjoy travel, golf, movies and hanging out with my family (3 kids, a wife and a dog).

I had a mentor in medical school (Karl Illig) who was an enthusiastic educator that piqued my interest. As I advanced through general surgery I became fascinated by the evolving technology and multiple ways to solve problems in vascular as well as the ability to treat patients open, endovascularly and medically. I loved the small community of surgeons and my mentors in general surgery (Vivian Gahtan and Kwame Amankwah) supported my pursuits… the rest is history!

I originally was part of the MVSS as a candidate member during training. My first faculty job took me to the SOUTH but when I was recruited to Saint Louis University, I became involved in again. The MVSS has a fantastic community of academic and community surgeons with a superb annual meeting and other resources available to members (webinars, trainee education, etc.). I’ve enjoyed doing more with the society and am eager to stay involved. Midwest is the Best!
