“Head to Toe Flow”: PAD and Carotid Artery Stenosis Focus

Learning Objectives:
- Differentiate the pathophysiology, risk factors, and natural history of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and carotid artery stenosis (CAS).
- Recognize key clinical presentations of PAD (ex. claudication, limb ischemia) and CAS (ex. asymptomatic vs. symptomatic carotid disease, stroke/TIA risk).
- Apply evidence-based screening and diagnostic strategies, including appropriate use of ABI, duplex ultrasound, and advanced imaging.
- Compare current guideline-directed medical therapies for PAD and CAS, including antiplatelet, lipid-lowering, and risk factor modification approaches.
- Apply principles of the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) in lower extremity bypass to improve outcomes.
- Evaluate indications for intervention in both PAD and CAS including surgical management and wound care.
- Summarize key updates in the 2026 pulmonary embolism guidelines.
